My other half and I went out to celebrate half a decade together here, what better restaurant to choose! Here’s why: (and no this isn’t an ad, just an honest review)
- it’s a completely nut free kitchen. Nothing they serve contains any nuts. This is due to one of the staff having an allergy in the family. With that said, they do stock Bombay Sapphire gin which is distilled with almonds (I have advised them of that though, and, as in the last picture they did have nutty soap in the ladies - I didn’t realise until on the way out luckily, but these are things we encounter every day.)
I’ve never been able to have an Indian any more authentic than out of a Pataks jar before so it was all new to me but oh my word it was amazing!!! The food was so good there wasn’t a single thing either of us tried that we didn’t like! Which is amazing considering it was a new type of food!
The service was so genuine. You note your allergens on booking, when we arrived they asked which of us had the allergy, then proceeded to help with the lesser common allergies that I have (kiwi and haricot beans). There was no awkwardness - the waitress was excited to tell me everything was safe for me and proud to show me the allergen booklet without me even asking for it. Absolutely incredible - all restaurants should be like this!!! I tried a cocktail that had mango juice in it, but I wanted to check it was genuinely mango juice and not ‘tropical juice’ which often contains kiwi. She looked a little confused as to why I was asking at first but once I explained this I felt she understood and was compassionate and helpful around it… education is key here! If you don’t deal with it yourself how would you possibly know where the dangers hide? A number of staff came over to chat about my allergy, having a genuine interest in it, and telling stories of Delhi and authentic ingredients etc. We took special interest in this and were so fascinated by the experience and culture. One waiter was so passionate of his stories of home that he went to the trouble of making us a special Delhi chai… it was lovely. All in all a great experience - a must visit! 10/10
