wagamama - Birmingham

We came to Birmingham to see an event with the Birmingham Royal Ballet and we were starving. Wagamama is such a good option for us. Kids had chicken katsu combos and we had gyoza and ginger chicken udon. Manager was superb and really welcoming.

Before taking orders, the waiter asked if anyone had an allergy. When I said I did, they gave me an allergen menu, and the manager came to take my order. They said a senior chef would prepare my meal, and take extra care over allergens. My food was brought to the table by the manager, separately from my friends' meals. All very reassuring. If your allergies are severe enough that you're afraid of eating out, Wagamamas is a good place to venture to.

I came here for lunch with a friend. We had a lovely meal and it was all completely nut free, which is lovely to know. I have heard there might be some changes to their desserts, which will contain nuts, but for now there are no nut items on the menu.

You just can’t beat this place when you are eating with allergies! They cook everything fresh, they take such good care of you and there is no need to worry. All the food is amazing to boot!

If anyone ever asks me to recommend a place to take the family where allergies are catered for well it's Wagamama - any of their UK locations (overseas not so great in our experience) we've always felt looked after and reassured. If you say you have an allergy the manager is personally put in charge of your ordering and liaising with the chef. They seem to have good policies around cross contamination and staff are well trained. They don't have many nuts on their menu anymore, which makes it easier, but I imagine if you were allergic to sesame it might be a trickier one. But for us as a nut allergy household they are great. 10/10.

I have gone back to Wagamama’s time after time because the food is brilliant, the service is quick and the allergen procedure is phenomenal. My partner and I do enjoy to rate how good the restaurants we go to have handled my allergen as different places and different servers can react quite differently. However, Wagamama’s is the one to beat, they have no doubt in their allergen procedure and always make me feel so happy and calm as they show me the allergen file, the even suggest what they would personally recommend and also write that I have a nut allergy on other dishes so I can try the people I’m with dishes. Which doesn’t sound like a big deal but I would never try anyone else’s food in case it hasn’t been properly checked for allergies or handled with the same care. This is one of my favourite restaurants and I always leave happy and full!
