- Tree nuts
The Ship is a quaint little hotel with a few rooms, an indoor dining area, as well as a traditional beer garden, perfect for eating outside.
As the Ship was only a few doors down from our holiday cottage, I went to see them a few days before we were due to dine there. I explained my little boy suffered from a severe nut allergy, and they reassured me that all their allergens are clearly displayed on the menu and that if I had any questions they would be more than happy to help me.
We turned up for lunch on a Wednesday after a lovely stroll at Brancaster beach. A couple of days before our meal at the Ship, we had a terrible experience at a well-known gastro pub in the area, where they managed to serve us a chicken dish covered in nuts (even though all precautionary steps had been followed and we specified no food with nuts could be served at the table)…so the Ship was a true breath of fresh air for us and a welcome break from the stress we had experienced.
Because we had a person suffering with an allergy at our table, all food orders were taken by the manager, who ensured all food was going to be prepared safely and away from any possible cross-contamination.
My husband and I enjoyed two pub classics- blue stilton and tenderstem broccoli quiche and chicken with mushroom pie, both were delicious! Our boy loved his grilled chicken with honey roasted carrots and new potatoes.
It’s incredible how such a simple meal can mean so much to someone - all we wanted was to be able to eat out again and be treated like any other customer.
The Ship exceeded our expectations in every sense, and made a simple pub meal very special indeed.
